The Uff-Da Bird

Description

Latin Runnengas uffdas
Found in North country of Norway
Easily identified by the flag of Norway on its breast.

Discovered in 1307 by Ole Pugerund, noted Norse ornithologist.

The Uff-da gets its name from a strange cry it utters oncea year. After the one-pound female lays a three-pound egg, the male utters a loud, obviously heartfelt "Uff-da!"

(Sung to the tune of
"On Top of Old Smokey")

On a mountain in Norway
There's a strange little bird
And it's only in springtime
His weird cry is heard.

Every Norse child knows
This tiny bird's plight,
And they weep in sympathy
When they see him in flight.

This tiny Norwegian bird
Weighs one pound, you see
But in Spring she lays an egg
Whose pounds number three!

So, if you visit Norway
In the Spring of the year,
A strange cry of "Uff-da"
Is what you will hear.
